this is probably not real

I research how humans and machines interact, build software on the side, and every now and then make things that are probably not quite real.
research, freelancing, experiments
At the IIIUS (Institute for Intelligent Interactive Ubiquitous Systems) I work on artificial intelligence, computer vision and extended reality. What interests me most is how machines perceive their surroundings and how people can work with such systems in a meaningful way.
One topic I am particularly concerned with is explainable AI: how to make it understandable why a model does what it does.
On the side I work as a freelancer: I consult on software and AI, build websites and, on request, take on custom software projects. If you have a project in mind, get in touch.

Research project at IIIUS together with INIT: intelligent, adaptive user interfaces for control-room systems in public transport. I am one of the main developers.
Lighthouse project of the TechnologieRegion Karlsruhe: moving passengers and goods together by tram. I co-develop the project's VR environment.
Capturing lecturers with 3D cameras and showing them as point clouds in virtual space, so complex topics can be explained spatially instead of on a blackboard. Camera calibration with Python and OpenCV, rendering in Unity.
Bachelor's thesis: a remote rendering component in Unity for the HoloLens 2 application MARBLE. Complex models are rendered on an external machine, colour and depth data are streamed via WebRTC and put back into the scene.
VR game for the Vive XR Elite, made in a game jam during my master's in media informatics: escape from an office full of strange tasks. I programmed the entire game mechanics.
Beer pong as a browser-based AR app, built as a team project in a real-time computer graphics course. My part: coordination, shader programming and choosing the 3D libraries.
A solar system in a single Shadertoy shader, made in two days. The focus is on the shadows, which make the planets look like 3D models although everything is computed per pixel.
